This program is an examination of the Gran Max units, specifically for Connecting Rod
on the 3SZ engine. We would like to appeal to Daihatsu owner of involved Gran Max
to bring the vehicle(s) to the selected nearest Daihatsu authorized service centres to
conduct the above mentioned for FREE of charge.
What is the rationale behind the Special Service Campaign / Connecting Rod Inspection & Replacement Program on 3SZ Engine?
This program is part of the 3 years / 100,000km vehicle warranty in which Daihatsu’s
commitment to always be responsible and to care for the safety and comfort of
customers in an effort to increase the satisfaction and comfort of Daihatsu owners.
Why do the Connecting Rod parts on 3SZ engine need to be checked?
This program is an examination of the Gran Max units, specifically for Connecting Rod
on the 3SZ engine. We would like to appeal to Daihatsu owner of involved Gran Max
to bring the vehicle(s) to the selected nearest Daihatsu authorized service centres to
conduct the above mentioned for FREE of charge.
What happens if I do not repair Connecting Rod on a 3SZ engine?
Continuing to drive the vehicle in this condition may cause accelerated wear and
damage to engine. This may lead to vehicle stall during operation and causes potential
risk on the road.
What are the concrete steps to this program?
Vehicle owners are advised to carry out service inspection on the involved Gran Max at
selected Daihatsu authorized service centres at no inspection and replacement cost
involved.
Can this program be categorized as ‘Product Recall’?
This is a Special Service Campaign exercise conducted under our 3 years/100,000km
vehicle warranty program as part of Daihatsu’s commitment to always provide the best
service and product quality to our customers.
Which production range is involved in this Connecting Rod Inspection & Replacement Program on 3SZ Engine?
1,451 units of Gran Max under the manufacturing date 7th March 2018 to 10th April 2019.
Are there any other Daihatsu model involved in this Special Service Campaign?
No, only the Gran Max is involved in Malaysia market.
Why is this important announcement just made now?
A thorough analysis as well as preparation to the program needs to be conducted at
earlier stage to ensure the ‘Special Service Campaign / Connecting Rod Inspection &
Replacement Program on 3SZ Engine’ would run smoothly and effectively.
What will Daihatsu do?
Daihatsu will carry out appropriate inspections and replacement on the said Connecting
Rod in accordance with Daihatsu manufacturing standards at no charge to the vehicle
owner for parts replacement and labor.
How long does the inspection process take?
The inspection and replacement process will take approximately 18 hours / 3 working
days to complete, subject to the work schedule at the selected service centre.
Does this mean there are production defects to the Gran Max?
No. It is reported from the examination conducted, there is a possibility that the
Connecting Rod is not in accordance with Daihatsu manufacturing standard for the
manufacturing period of 7th March 2018 to 10th April 2019.
What parts are checked in this program?
Specifically Connecting Rod on the 3SZ engine.
What are the safety concerns?
Does this inspection guarantee that the involved Gran Max will stay clear of the same problem in future?
Yes, with this inspection being carried out, Daihatsu guarantees the Connecting Rod on
the 3SZ engine will be in optimal condition.
At present, how many units have been successfully inspected and repaired?
The first phase commenced in 12th August 2019 by replacing new engine set for 265 of
unsold units, completion of work on 11th September 2019. The second phase for remaining 1,186 registered customer units will take effect from 8th November 2019
onwards.
So far have there been any cases or incidents on customers that refuse to participate in this program?
No case reported in Malaysia as yet.
Can customer choose the supplier of Connecting Rod for replacement?
No. We only use our Daihatsu Genuine Part that is supplied by Daihatsu Japan.
Will the new replacement of Connecting Rod be safe?
Yes, it has been advised that the replacement of Connecting Rod is the best counter
measure.
What non-standard conditions causes the Connecting Rod to be checked?
After undergone examination, the Connecting Rod assembled to Gran Max’s 3SZ
engine found to have smooth crack and possibly may cause vehicle stall during
operation. Based on investigation, it is reported that the problem occurred during
forging of connecting rod at production stage in ADM manufacturing plant, Indonesia.
Will there be any warranty after the replacement of Connecting Rod made?
Yes, the Warranty Period remains the same for 3 Years (36 months) or 100,000 km
whichever comes first, (If vehicle is used for 20 months, then the balance Warranty
period is 16 months or balance km whichever comes first)
As for After warranty vehicles, the Warranty for the replacement of Connecting Rod will
be 6 months or 10,000 km, whichever comes first.
How long will this program run for?
Until all identified manufactured units from 7th March 2018 to 10th April 2019 are being
inspected and replaced completely.

Will it possible to utilize the Daihatsu Mobile Service for this inspection due to time constraints and remote locations?
No. We do not recommend inspection to be done via Daihatsu Mobile Service as the
replacement job requires technicians equipped with special tools and machineries.
Does the selected Daihatsu authorised service centres accept walk-ins?
Yes. Daihatsu service centres does accept walk-in customer.
However, customers / vehicle owners are encouraged to firstly make a service
appointment as the inspection and replacement process will take approximately 18
hours / 3 working days to complete, subject to the work schedule at the selected service
centre.

Who is responsible for this inspection and replacement program?
Daihatsu Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. will take on full responsibility on this examination with our
highly trained and certified technicians equipped with special tools and machineries
dedicated specially for this Special Service Campaign.
If Connecting Rod parts are not available, how is Daihatsu going to handle it?
Daihatsu will contact you to make an appointment once the stock arrives.
What document should I bring for this inspection and replacement program?
Customer / vehicle owners are encouraged to bring their Service Booklet or Vehicle
Registration Card to the selected Daihatsu authorised service centres to confirm the
Chassis Number. This is to enable us to identify whether as to your vehicle(s) is affected
for the Connecting Rod replacement.
Will I be reimbursed for lost time?
Daihatsu Malaysia will compensate Two (2) RM250 Service Voucher per affected vehicle
as reimbursement. This service voucher can be utilized for the next upcoming two (2)
schedule routine maintenance with Daihatsu. However, any unused amount will not be
refunded.
How much does this inspection cost & do I need to pay for the Connecting Rod replacement?
No. All Connecting Rod inspections are Free of charge for parts replacement and labor.
What are the consequences if I choose not to proceed with the inspection and replacement of Connecting Rod?
Daihatsu would strongly advice all owners of the involved vehicle to contact selected
authorized Daihatsu service centre at your earliest convenience in order to schedule for
a service appointment.
Failure to have the Connecting Rod replaced in a timely manner could result in future
damage to your vehicle’s engine and causes vehicle stall.
